Welcome Martin Maddox Shelar!
All of you faithful blogger’s know who Martin is and why I am giving him such a special welcome to the world. If you are new to the blog then a quick refresh – Kara is a very close friend of mine (since grade school) who was Miss Georgia and first runner up to Miss America and is currently an Internal Medicine Doctor at Piedmont in Atlanta. Like DeWayne and I, Kara and Scott have taken their time bringing Martin to the world. (read previous blog post)
Friday afternoon at 3:28 pm Martin Maddox Shelar arrived. He was 21 inches; 8lb, 13 oz.
I had the opportunity to photograph Maddox at Northside Hospital in Atlanta on Saturday. I know this is no surprise to any of you – but he is a VERY handsome baby. Here are a few of the images from the session at the hospital. Scott and Kara are very excited about Martin’s arrival. Here are Scott’s comments via email on Friday: “Kara and baby are doing fine. We are all a little tired, but wide awake with excitement. We can?t stop looking at him! Thank you, DeWayne, Edie Grace and all of your faithful blog readers for your thoughts, prayers, generosity and guidance over the last several months. Everything all of you said was right. It is the most awesome experience in the world!”
Please comment below to Kara, Scott and Martin. They would enjoy hearing from all of you EXPERIENCED parents. They will be checking the blog for your comments.

Scott, Kara, and Martin,
God blees the three of you! Your adventure called parenting is now under way. You will be blessed beyond measure and tested to the limit. It is Gods’ way of preparing you to be wise seniors in a number of yours down the road. Gods’ grace will be with you through the highs and the lows. Your friends will be there to walk through it with you as well. We are pleased to be among that group to support and encourage you if you like.
Absolutely beautiful! And you and Kara are glowing
I love all of you, and I can’t wait to get down to visit!
Congrats to you both! As the father of three girls (One 3 YO, and twins 9 mos), my best advice is go with the flow, learn how to be patient, and take lots of pictures! Oh yeah, and the cold-hearted Republican in me can’t resist to say, it is never too early to start teaching discipline to your kids.
Best of luck!
Chris Ingram
(old friend of Scott’s from GSU)
Absolutely beautiful. Enjoy every minute, hold him when he cries, you both will be better for that, love him through everything, go on every fieldtrip you can, coach little league, welcome every frog, lizard, and turtle he brings home. He will bring you his boo boos one day and leave for college the next.
Warm wishes,
Jan
hi scott and kara its me phillip congrats and i cant wait to see martin!
What a wonderful addition to the world. This is the family that creates the American dream and then fulfills the dream.
Amazing! Scott, Kara, and now Martin. We cannot wait to come over and meet the newest member of our family and friends! Congratulations!
We are so happy for you! What a beautiful family. Being a parent is the most wonderful thing in the world. I hope you’ll bring Martin to Gatorville real soon, we’d love to meet him.
Congratulations! He is beautiful and you both are glowing. Every minute will be wonderful, each stage
of life is so much fun. Now you get to be kids again through your son. Enjoy.
Way to go you two! What a beautiful boy. May he become as sweet and successful as you
Scott. I know he will bring you lots of joy and happiness. It will be your toughest job
yet but definitely the most rewarding!!
All the best,
Carolyn, Glen, Brooklyn & Marina
Kara, Scott! You both look so happy. Welcome Martin!
The time goes by so fast – it is funny what I remember. That first night home – no diapers, the bed not made, no baby blankets and that “what-do-we-do-this-baby-now” feeling! We are so happy for you.
“Teach us that we may feel the importance of every day, of every hour, as it passes.” – Jane Austen
All I can say is God bless you all. He is beautiful. The love radiates throught the page. Enjoy him Count each day as a blessing. When they say he will be in college before you know it ….He will I know. wink
Kara & Scott,
Fantastic–he looks great. He will look even greater in an Ohio State Uniform next
to Jason at some point in the future.
On parenting–just enjoy–take it all with a grain of salt, both the good and the
bad. There will be plenty of both, and you two will do just fine.
Rich
What a beautiful family. Enjoy every sleep deprived, frightening, and absolutely wonderful moment. Congratulations!
Wow, almost nine pounds of blissfull baby.
Scott, I have orderd a hard hat and safety glasses for Martin, just in case he were to accompany Dad on a future construction job-site visit.

Kara & Scott, Congratulations and I’m so glad that Mom and son are healthy. Looks like he got his Mom’s good looks as well. The first child is truly a life changing experience. God Bless and take plenty of videos because they grow up real fast.
